Geospatial Database Development

Geospatial Databases can be an integral part to making critical decisions.  They can be used to save valuable resources, time, effort, money, and lives.  When developing a Geospatial Database environment there are several questions clients often contemplate:

  • What data do we have? Where are those data held? And by whom? Who are the data caretakers? Are they stored within MS Excel/Access sheets/databases?

  • Are these data readily accessible and are they accurate?  What's their quality and quantity?

  • What data do we really need?  What data do we have access to?  What data sources are available?

  • How will we recode, redefine, reformat or migrate those data to fit into our existing or planned systems?  At what cost?

  • Are these data sources up-to-date and reliable?

  • What format or scale are those data?  Are they in digital, analog, or tabular format? Do we have the network systems and personnel in place to handle, acquire, process, store, and serve-up those data?

  • What are the requirements, nature of, or specific types of analyses we want to perform?

  • Who will be our data builders and/or users?  Who, when, and how will data be updated?  At what cost?

  • What is our targeted audience?  What do we want our data environment be? Personal or multi-user?  How should or do we visualize our data?

  • How do we intend to acquire the data we really need for our proposed system?  What database solutions are available out there?  What about back-up and security?

If you have asked yourself any of these questions, we can provide you with the assistance you need in all phases to prepare a Geospatial Database that suits and fulfills your organizational needs.
